Showers & Flowers: Feliciana Wildflower Festival

Posted on | Event recap

Despite heavy showers off and on all day at the Feliciana Wildflower Festival on June 6, Wild Ones GBR volunteers Allison Gianelloni, Ky Burke, and Joan Chiasson spoke to a fairly steady stream of visitors. There were families, couples, and individuals interested in native plants, and our graphics display by Janine Kharey on pollinators and their host plants.

By sharing a booth with the Louisiana Master Naturalists of Greater Baton Rouge, it was easy to explain to visitors how native gardening is essential to attracting wildlife and to supporting our native ecosystems. Visitors were especially interested in how native plants can attract more birds and pollinators to their yards, as well as add beauty to their gardens. Many of the volunteers at our booth were members of both organizations. Wild Ones GBR also shared information about how to reach our chapter website, as well as how to access information about native plants at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ website. Hopefully next year’s Feliciana Wildflower Festival will see sunnier skies and even more visitors!

The festival is spread through 8 blocks of the charming and historic Clinton, Louisiana, and it is estimated that 4,000 people attended! The educational presentations this year focused on pollinators, quail, and wildflowers. The date for next year is set for June 7, 2027.
